After nearly two decades as part of Rain or Shine’s coaching staff, Caloy Garcia was asked to step down and pass the helm to Chris Gavina.

In Rain or Shine’s social media post, it was confirmed that Gavina will be replacing Garcia as the franchise’s new head coach this upcoming PBA season.

“We are excited to announce the appointment of Chris Gavina as Rain or Shine’s Head Coach. He brings with him several years of experience as a coach in both the PBA and MPBL,” Rain or Shine posted in their Facebook account.

Garcia will no longer be a part of Rain or Shine’s coaching staff but was named as the team’s active consultant and head of basketball operations.

Gavina was Garcia’s assistant for almost two years in Rain or Shine while at the same time had a head coaching stint during the MPBL.

Aside from his MPBL coaching history, it can be recalled that Gavina was an assistant coach at Kia Mahindra and helped the team reach the quarterfinals way back in 2016, the only time the franchise had a playoffs appearance.

Known for his run-and-gun style of play, Gavina will try to incorporate the best system that would incorporate the talents of the squad with Gabe Norwood, Rey Nambatac, Jayvee Mocon, and Beau Belga still present in the roster.
