CFOS showcases registered technologies, honors inventors

The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), UP Visayas, launched an exhibit to showcase various Intellectual Properties (IPs) that have been registered through the years.

Held on August 4, 2022, at the Pidlaoan Hall, CFOS, UPV Miagao Campus, the opening of the CFOS Research and Public Service Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Showcase was led by Dean Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap, Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Prof. Harold M. Monteclaro, and Director of the Institute of Fisheries Policy and Development Studies Assoc. Prof. Caridad N. Jimenez.

The exhibit highlighted the intellectual properties that CFOS has registered over the past years. It was also an avenue to honor the researchers/ inventors who have transformed knowledge into innovations for the benefit of the public.

A total of 51 IPRs were on public display. Of this number, 26 were registered utility models (Ums), and 25 were copyrighted materials.

The College recognized 27 faculty members and researchers for all works created and inventions that helped uplift the fisheries industry in the country. Certificates and tokens were given to the inventors as an appreciation of their invaluable efforts.

So far, the CFOS has registered more than 75 intellectual property rights (UMs, copyrighted materials, industrial designs, and patents) from research and public service activities.

The exhibit will run until the first week of classes in September this year.

The activity is in line with the celebration of the 75th Year of UP Presence of Iloilo. (Lenilyn B. Gallos/CFOS with information from Assistant Prof. Lhumen Tejano)
