Capiz reports 5 victims of firecrackers

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The province of Capiz has posted 5 victims with firecrackers-related injuries during the recent celebration of New Year’s Day.

Records from the  Provincial Fireworks Related Injuries (FWRI) case bulletin of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) from Dec. 21, 2022 to 12 p.m. of Jan. 1, 2023, indicated that 2 victims were from Ivisan, 2 in Panitan, and 1 in Jamindan.

The cases this year are lower than the 9 cases posted in 2021.

A minor boy got injured after a firecracker exploded on his right hand in Barangay Aglibacao, Jamindan, Capiz, early morning of Jan. 1, 2023.

Reports from Jamindan Municipal Police Station said that the boy picked up the firecracker while he was playing in their backyard.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office-Jamindan provided first aid to the victim who was later sent home to recuperate.

Maj. Ruby Magallanes, Public Information Officer of Capiz Police Provincial Office, said that no one was injured by stray bullets.

Police also confiscated 384 pieces of illegal firecrackers and 284 boga or improvised cannons.
