Capiz receives P1-M aid from Davao for ‘Ursula’ victims

ROXAS CITY, Capiz— The provincial government of Capiz received a check for P1 million as financial assistance of Davao City Mayor Sarah Duterte for victims of typhoon Ursula.

The check was personally received by Gov. Esteban Evan Contreras from Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) head Alfredo D. Baloran and Virgilio San Pedro of the Davao City Treasurer’s office.

The governor thanked mayor Duterte for the support.

Meanwhile, close to P1 billion worth of fisheries products were destroyed by typhoon Ursula in December 2019.

Provincial Agriculturist Sylvia Dela Cruz said that based on the consolidated reports submitted by municipal agriculturists, the fisheries industry lost P962 million to the typhoon.

The typhoon ravaged fishponds, fish cages, fishing boats and gears, among others.

De la Cruz said seven coastal towns of Capiz were hit by the typhoon. Pontevedra was hardest hit with P274 million in losses while Panay lost P254 million.

On the part of agricultural sector, it lost P500 million to Ursula. Some 27,000 hectares of rice crops were affected with damage estimated at P412 millions.

Earlier, reports from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) indicated that P329,172,000 worth of infrastructures and P91,179,900 worth of livestock were also lost to the typhoon.

On the other hand, 98,130 families in Capiz were affected by the typhoon while 13,809 houses were destroyed and 59,862 were damaged.
