Undisputed super-middleweight boxing champion Canelo Alvarez will look to exact his revenge on current World Boxing Association (WBA) light-heavyweight king Dmitry Bivol this September 2023.

Alvarez himself revealed the most recent update regarding his rematch with Bivol during an interview with Fight Hub TV.

After becoming the first-ever undisputed super-middleweight champion when he knocked out Caleb Plant last November 2021, Alvarez succumbed at the hands of Bivol when he moved up weight and became his first loss since September 2013.

When Fight Hub TV asked Alvarez if a rematch will be upcoming in the 175-pound weight class, the Mexican superstar said: “Yes. It will be the same terms because I feel like I need to do it in those terms”.

Alvarez also added that his second bout with Bivol will be taking place this September with the venue yet to be announced.

To recall, Alvarez challenged Bivol in an attempt to take a light-heavyweight title belt but the technical and smart fighter from Russia out-boxed him for 12-straight rounds.

Alvarez had his moments in the fight when he landed several big right bombs but Bivol’s volume of punches and efficiency helped him maintain his perfect professional boxing record.

After the fight, punching statistics showed that the reigning light-heavyweight champion threw an insane 59 punches per round and landed at least 13.

On the other hand, Alvarez was only able to throw 84 total punches in 12 rounds and recorded his career-low in terms of punches thrown.

Alvarez’s loss to Bivol is only the second in his professional career since falling to the legendary Floyd Mayweather Jr. last 2013.
