BACOLOD City – Mayor Salvador Escalante urged businessmen and traders to stop providing inaccurate measurements to consumers in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
This, after 72 defective weighing scales were destroyed last Tuesday, following recurring complaints from consumers on the inaccurate weight measurement of some traded products at the market.
These weighing scales were confiscated by the Market Operations Division Composite Team during a series of surprise inspections at the city public market over a period of four months.
The destruction ceremony was witnessed by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) officials led by provincial director Rachel Nufable, government employees, and police.
It was also in line with the celebration of the Consumer’s Welfare Month.
Escalante warned traders that monitoring and operation against defective weighing scales will continue.
This is the local government’s way to protect consumers from dishonest market traders.
