BSP honors national artists with ‘Tanaw’ virtual exhibit

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) launched “Tanaw,” a virtual exhibition featuring some of the best works of various Filipino national artists as part of efforts to promote cultural awareness and celebrate the country’s rich cultural heritage.

Selected from the BSP’s fine art collection, the exhibition features works of Fernando Amorsolo, Benedicto “Bencab” Cabrera, Napoleon Abueva, Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, Ang Kiukok, Victorio Edades, Carlos “Botong” Francisco, Abdulmari Asia Imao, Jose Joya, Cesar Legaspi, Arturo Luz, Vicente Manansala, J. Elizalde Navarro and Hernando R. Ocampo.

“Tanaw pays tribute to these Filipino masters whose ingenious and compelling reflections on culture and society helped foster a more dynamic modern Philippine art scene,” said BSP Governor Benjamin E. Diokno.

“Tanaw” can be accessed via the BSP website through a viewing platform that allows visitors to explore virtual gallery spaces. Curated by the BSP Museum, the  exhibition also showcases clickable artworks with corresponding background information.

Recognized widely as one of the country’s leading art collections, the BSP fine art collection includes outstanding paintings, works on paper, tapestries, and sculptures.

“As part of its tradition, BSP is continuously showcasing and expanding its art collection as its contribution to the preservation of the country’s rich cultural heritage,” explained Governor Diokno.

Additionally, a four-minute projection mapping showing the works of 14 national artists on a loop are shown every night on the BSP building until March 11.

The BSP Museum serves as the custodian and repository of various cultural treasures acquired and donated over the past five decades. In addition to its expansive fine art collection, the museum features pre-colonial gold and pottery, numismatic pieces, and a decorative arts collection.
