The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) highlighted how digitalization can support the financial health of Filipino families during the 5th Financial Education (FinEd) Expo held virtually from 21 to 25 November 2022. Themed “Owning the Future: Rebuilding and Strengthening Financial Health through Financial Literacy,” FinEd Expo 2022 put the spotlight on responsible personal debt management, financial planning, and risk management.
“The BSP promotes digital financial services through its policy work, and digital financial literacy through its advocacy work,” said BSP Governor Felipe M. Medalla.
This year’s FinEd Expo featured lectures on digital payments such as online banking, virtual assets, and QR Ph – the national standard for transactions using quick response (QR) codes. Expo sessions also highlighted other investment options, such as government savings programs, retirement accounts, and stocks.
Moreover, the expo provided an opportunity to discuss RA No. 11765 (The Financial Products and Services Consumer Protection Act) and featured a talk show for Filipino families and a livelihood program for persons with disabilities.
Guest speakers included prominent personalities, such as former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, broadcaster Atom Araullo, actress Aya Fernandez, financial planner Randelle Tiongson, and business journalist Salve Duplito.
Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat of the Regional Operations and Advocacy Sector also shared the importance of empowering Filipinos by providing them with knowledge needed to manage their financial resources well and to spend wisely. “The BSP remains committed to developing responsive and timely regulations, interventions, and programs to further financial education among our people,” she said.
The FinEd Expo, conducted annually, serves as a regular platform for the BSP and its institutional partners to exhibit educational programs, strengthen partnerships, and expand the network of advocates toward financial literacy. The BSP conducts the expo in celebration of Economic and Financial Literacy Week pursuant to Republic Act (RA) No. 10922.
