The city government turned over 52 brand new cars and motorcycles to the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO), and several departments in the City Hall on Monday.

Mayor Jerry Treñas said that 26 motorcycles will be given to the ICPO while 10 will be turned over to the PSTMO and 16 were distributed to other departments.

Naghatag kita 36 ka motor para sa police and PSTMO and 16 ara sa mga departamento naton nga gakinahanglan sang motor,” he said in an interview on Monday.

Aside from the motorcycles, the city government also turned over nine police cars to the ICPO and 10 more service vehicles to the departments and offices in the City Hall.

“Out of the 22 service vehicles para sa aton departments 10 pa lang ang nag-abot so may 12 pa kabilog nga inogdeliver before the end of the year,” he said.

One canter vehicle was also given to the City Engineer’s Office on Monday.

While the mayor did not mention the over-all budget of the vehicles, he said that he used the savings from the alleged overpriced vehicles purchased by the previous administration.

Wala ako nakadumdom sa presyo pero ang amount ginkuha naton sa savings sang overpriced nga transaction sang nagligad nga adminastrasyon,” he said.

Meanwhile, Treñas said he plans to institute a “Traffic Discipline Zone” the 14-kilometer stretch of Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue from Brgy. San Rafael in Mandurriao district to Ungka Iloilo Terminal and General Services Inc. in Jaro district by next year.

Once successful, he plans to designate another area in McArthur’s Drive in Brgy. Tabuc Suba in Jaro district as the next discipline zone.

“Ginatilaw ta before the end of the year nga matestingan dira sa Benigno Aquino Avenu pero kon indi malagas before yearend, basi Enero gid ta masugod then next target ta dira sa Tabuc Suba, Jaro,” he said.

Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu explained that local ordinances and national road laws will be strictly implemented at all times in the said discipline zones.
