Boy, 5, dead in ‘hit-and-run’

BACOLOD City – A five-year-old boy died while his father and sister were injured in an alleged “hit-and-run” incident along Circumferential Road at Barangay Mandalagan here early Sunday.

Authorities identified the fatality as Genesis Eraga Jr. His father, Genesis Sr., 36; and his eight-year-old daughter, whose name was withheld, both residents of Barangay Matab-ang, Talisay City, were hurt.

Police investigation indicated that the Eraga family were on their way home from a cemetery in San Enrique town onboard a tricycle when a still unidentified vehicle allegedly sideswiped them at around 1 a.m.

Eraga Sr. was driving the tricycle when the accident occurred.

The driver of the unidentified vehicle left the vicitms on the road.

The three were rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) here, but Genesis Jr. expired at 5 a.m. The two other victims were already discharged from the hospital.

Meanwhile, the police and the Eraga family are urging the driver to surrender to the authorities and face the offense he committed.

Police are checking the footage of a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage installed near the scene to identify the vehicle and the driver.
