BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is pushing for a legislation that would intensify the security measures on courier service providers.

Police Colonel Henry Biñas, BCPO director, came up with the idea following the seizure of about P5 million worth of suspected shabu in a buy-bust from four persons at Barangay Alijis last Thursday.

“This way, we will be able to prevent the entry of illegal drugs in Negros Island, especially here,” Biñas said.

The contraband, according to the authorities, was transported through a courier from Metro Manila.

Police in Negros Occidental has earlier said that the province is a “transhipment area” because of the different entry points “but it is not a source of illegal drugs.

Negros island has a vast coastline which enables contraband to enter the area, even small boats can carry this contraband, Biñas said.

To address the situation, Biñas said that legislation is needed to curb such modus.

Meanwhile, the four suspects – Ryan Benemile, 25, a native of Brgy. 30; his alleged runners Alberto Pastera Jr., 18, of Brgy 30, and Wegene Bagcal, 19, of Brgy. Mansilingan; and alleged client Chris John Esmedia, 29, of La Carlota City are already facing drug charges and detained at Police Station 3.

The BCPO continues to hunt down drug personalities to at least lessen the drug menace in the city.
