BACOLOD CITY – Police here are waiting for instructions from the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters when to use or operate the body cameras that arrived here and in Negros Occidental.

According to Police Lieutenant Liberty Indiape, information officer of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), 16 body cameras were given to the city police force early this year.

Indiape said they are waiting for the arrival of a technical team from the national headquarters to conduct orientation and training to personnel here who will be using it. However, there has been no schedule yet.

Indiape said they don’t know yet which unit the body cameras will be given to. But, most likely it will be used by personnel who are assigned to conduct police operations, she added.

Indiape said body cameras can help them show to the public the legitimacy of police operations.

“Indi ma malisyahan because we can be transparent,” she added.

She also said that it can also strengthen their cases in court because they have evidence through the body cameras.

Indiape said once it’s operational, they’re hoping to get additional body cameras.

Meanwhile, Police Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, information officer of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), said that 12 city police stations in the province already received 16 body cameras each.

The distribution of the body cameras started last year, she added.
