BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has been tapped to go after individuals who steal cable wires of telecommunications firms and electrical firms.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Sherlock Gabana, BCPO public information officer, said some telecommunications firms here reached out to the police recently to ask for their assistance in arresting persons who are stealing their cable wires.

Hence, Oplan Bantay Kable was formed for police to focus on tracking individuals who may have intention to commit such violation.

Gabana said the police will assist the personnel of telecommunications firms deployed in various areas here specifically for the said purpose.

This came after the occurrence of series of theft incidents, wherein cable wires were being cut and sold to junk shops, Gabana said.

Aside from the filing of theft charges against those responsible behind the stealing of cable wires, owners of junk shops may also face charges for violation of the anti-fencing law, Gabana said.

Gabana said these firms already made a move as their clients were affected by the rampant stealing of cable wires.

“Amo na kis-a maka experience ta bala na wala signal ang internet sa balay or opisina, or even ang mga Automated Teller Machine (ATM) ga offline gulpi,” he added.

Gabana advised the public to immediately report to the police if they spotted someone committing such violation.
