Batch ’65 moves to save old UPV high school buildings

UP High School Class ’65 alumni represented by Retired Associate Justice Francis H. Jardeleza, and Retired UPV Prof. Melanie J. Padilla, entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the UPV Foundation, Inc. through its concurrent president Chancellor Clement C. Camposano, for the preservation of the Old Faculty Room Building (now housing the Health Services Unit (HSU), High School (HS) Computer Room, and HS Music Room) and the former Woman’s Club Building – now the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) at the Iloilo City campus of UP Visayas.

The MOA signing was held at the UPV CM Conference Room, Iloilo City, on February 9, 2021.

Class ’65 acknowledged the historical and aesthetic value of the facilities mentioned above and has raised funds towards the repair/renovation of these buildings.

A sum of PHP300,000 will be turned to the UPV Foundation, which will serve as seed money for the assessment, planning, and preservation of these old structures.

The project will be pursued in coordination with the UPV Office of the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development and the Office of Alumni Relations of UPV.

Joining the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement was Dr. Joy C. Lizada, the Executive Director of the UPV Foundation, Inc., Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development Dr. Rhodella Ibabao, Vice Chancellor for Administration Prof. John Lorenz Belanio, Alumni Director Dr. Rey Carlo Gonzales, OICA Director Prof. Martin Genodepa, UPHSI Principal Prof. Alfredo Diaz and Batch ’65 members, Dr. Bong Gustilo, Mercy Basilan, and Dr. Pacifico Dalisay, Jr.
