BACOLOD City – A Norwegian national was injured after he was allegedly stabbed by a barker near a supermarket at Barangay Villamonte here Tuesday night.

Wounded was Harald Helsengreen, 53, of the said village.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Rondyl Tapang, head of Police Station 4, said Helsengreen was leaving a supermarket after buying liquor when he heard some bystanders laughing outside.

One of them is the suspect identified as Joemar Garcia, 25, of Barangay 41, whom he also knew.

Tapang said Helsengreen, who was believed to be drunk, confronted Garcia and allegedly kicked him, which caused the latter to allegedly attack him with a knife.

Helsengreen suffered seven stab wounds and was rushed to a private hospital.

The suspect, who earns his living by coaxing passengers to ride jeepneys in exchange for fees from drivers, fled.

Tapang said police went to Garcia’s house but he was not there.

Frustrated homicide charges will be filed against Garcia who is still at large.

Tapang said the victim is already stable and was transferred to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here.

Tapang said the victim was also previously reported for physical injury and alarm and scandal a month ago after he got involved in a commotion at an establishment here, but the complaint was referred to the barangay level.
