Bacolod City mayor signs Fast-Track Cities Declaration

REPRESENTATIVES from the Bacolod City Health Office, League of Cities of the Philippines, and UNAIDS Country Director Dr. Louie Ocampo witness the signing rite.

League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) national president and Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia signed the Fast Track Cities Declaration which aims to intensify cities’ response towards arresting the HIV-AIDS epidemic in the country.

By signing the declaration, Leonardia strengthened the cities’ commitment and continued partnership with UNAIDS. This also makes Bacolod City as the first city in Western Visayas to sign the declaration thereby leading the way for more cities to follow suit.

The UNAIDS-backed Fast Track Cities Initiative was launched in 2014 with Mayors from Paris, London, and Washington DC signing Declaration in Paris, France.

Also known as “Fast-Track Cities: Ending the AIDS Epidemic” to achieve the 90-90-90 target, it calls for localized, strategic, and accelerated efforts towards combatting HIV/AIDS.
