THE City of Bacolod joins the rest of the country in celebrating the 2019 National Women’s Month.

Councilor Cindy Rojas, chair of both the GAD (Gender and Development) Focal Point System, and the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) Committee on Women and Gender, spearheaded the launching ceremony of the Bacolod celebration of the National Women’s Month at the Bacolod City Government Center on March 7.

Joining her were First Lady Elsa Leonardia, and Councilors Em Ang and Ana Marie Palermo.

Also gracing the event were Barangay Taculing Kagawad Josephine Tamayo, who represented Councilor Lady Gles Pallen, who is also the barangay captain of Barangay Taculing; Sally Abelarde of the city’s Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD), and representatives from the Bacolod City Police Office—Women and Children’s Protection Desk (BCPO-WCPD).

Representatives from various sectors, government agencies, barangays, and non-government organizations also attended the event.

Rojas said the Women’s Month celebration aims to give recognition to every woman, and to remind all the women that “we are capable of becoming the better version of ourselves.”

Talisay City Social Welfare Officer Dionela Madrona, who was the guest speaker of the launching, said women should be active drivers in bringing about positive changes in the community.

This year’s theme of the National Women’s Month is, “We Make Change Work For Women.”

Campaign theme for the International Women’s Day celebration is #BalanceforBetter.

March 12 – Self Defense Training for Grade 9 students at Negros Occidental High School

March 14 – Self-Defense Training for Grade 9 students at the Bacolod City National High School

March 16 – Medical/Dental Mission in Barangay Taculing

March 18 – Seminar-Forum on R.A. 9262 (“Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004”) at the Barangay Taculing Hall

March 19 – Self-Defense Training for Tanods and Barangay Staff in Barangay Villamonte

March 20 – Zumba at the NGC grounds

March 21– Training on Kasambahay Law

March 22 – Self-Defense Training in Barangay Mansilingan
