Award-winning sculptor designs VMC’s art contest trophy

THE trophies for Victorias Milling Company’s 7th Interschool Art competition with a theme, “My Community,” was designed and made by award-winning Negrense sculptor and painter, Moreen Austria.

Moreen is the Grand Awardee in 2017 of Metrobank Art and Design Excellence (MADE) Sculpture Recognition Program, the most prestigious art contest in the country.

A resident artist of Gallery Orange and a member of the executive committee of VIVA ExCon, Moreen is known in the local arts community for her passion in mentoring upcoming artists and young children and has in fact been part of VMC’s Summer Art Workshop for student finalists in the company’s annual interschool art competition.

The specially-made trophies were handed out to the top three winners in both the secondary and elementary categories during the awarding ceremonies on Sunday at the SM Atrium.

Moreen also made the centennial monument that stands in the VMC compound in celebration of their 100th year anniversary early this year.

She joins six other Negrense artists that have made the art contest trophies in the past years including Rodney Martinez, Rafael Paderna, Jun-jun Montelibano, Dr. Tony Tejado, and Bamboo Tonogbanua.

Soon, Moreen’s work will gain more recognition when she unveils a multi-million peso sculpture in Federal Land’s property in Metro Manila.
