ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The province of Capiz launched on Monday the Provincial Dengue Day, an anti-dengue awareness campaign of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) in a bid to slow down the spread of the infection.

The activity started with an audio-visual presentation on dengue and followed by the flag raising ceremony at the Capiz Provincial Capitol Grounds.

Themed “End Dengue, starts with me,” the program was followed by a motorcade on major streets of Roxas City which proceeded to designated schools for the simultaneous dengue awareness campaign.

Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) personnel were assigned to Venancio Alba Elementary School in Brgy. Bolo here.

Assisting the CPPO were barangay officials and Dr. Ian Arciga of Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital.

Awareness programs were also held at barangays Mongpong, Banica, Tiza, Milibili, Lawaan, and Bolo.

June has been declared National Dengue Awareness Month based on the Proclamation No. 1204 issued by former President Fidel Ramos in 1998.

Latest data from health offices indicated that dengue cases in the province of Capiz spiked by 700 percent.
