BACOLOD City – Police are eyeing grudges behind the hacking incident that injured an army reservist on his birthday at Barangay Asia, Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental last Friday.

Police identified the victim as Winston Tiples, 37, of the said village.

Police Corporal Ryan Española, case investigator of Hinoba-an Municipal Police Station, said Tiples went to the comfort room at the house of his sister-in-law when the suspect identified as Jonnel Baylon allegedly attacked him with a bolo.

“Medyo crowded na to abi sa balay sang victim kay may celebration, nagkadto siya sa pihak balay, pero ga bantay na gali ang suspect,” Española added.

Tiples suffered two hack wounds in his right wrist and stomach. He underwent surgery and is now stable and confined at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here.

Española said Baylon attacked Tiples because he was helping his sister-in-law process her complaint against the suspect in the barangay.

“Napag-initan ini ang victim siguro,” he said, adding that Baylon kept going to the house of the victim’s sister-in-law despite advice that he was told not to go there anymore.

The victim’s sister-in-law and Baylon had a relationship before but the former broke up with him before she went to Iloilo to work, Española said.

Baylon is presently in a relationship with the cousin of his former live-in-partner.

“Ginpa-summon na na siya sa barangay na mag untat na kadto sa balay sang ex- partner niya pero ga sige siya gyapon kadto kag wala siya gakadto sa barangay,” Española said.

Española said that Baylon is at large and will be facing frustrated murder charges.
