Army clashes anew with NPA in Guihulngan

BACOLOD City – Another encounter occurred in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental last Wednesday, a day after the 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) clashed with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) in the said city on August 16.

A five-minute firefight ensued at Sitio Cantayson, Barangay Mani-ak, while the military troopers were tracking down the armed rebels they encountered on August 16.

Recovered from the encounter site were a .357 magnum revolver, a backpack, and some personal belongings.

No casualty was reported on the government side, while one casualty was reported on the enemy side, according to the Army.

The first encounter happened at Sitio Cambairan, Barangay Trinidad against the suspected members of Central Negros 1 (CN1) Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros, Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor (KR-NCBS), wherein two NPA rebels were believed to be wounded.

Meanwhile, Major General Benedict Arevalo, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division (ID), awarded 38 personnel of the 94th IB for their bravery during the successful combat operation in the hinter villages of Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on August 13.

The soldiers received Military Merit Medals in rites held at the 94th IB headquarters in Barangay Tambo, Ayungon, Negros Oriental last Wednesday.
