The Department of Health in Western Visayas -Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD 6) confirmed the additional case in a bulletin issued on Sunday.

Dr. May Ann Soliva-Sta. Lucia, Health Promotion Cluster head of DOH-CHD 6, said the patient identified as WV Patient No. 93 is currently under facility quarantine.

“Out of the 186 laboratory results released, only one tested positive for Covid-19. The patient is a 39-year-old female from Arevalo, Iloilo City and has been facility quarantined,” she said in a virtual press briefing on Sunday.

The patient is the eighth confirmed case in Arevalo district, which now accounts for half of the total COVID-19 cases in Iloilo City at 16.

Six of the eight cases in Arevalo are from Brgy. Sto Niño Sur. The city government has yet to confirm if the latest case is also from the same village.

The COVID-19- cases in the barangay include a driver of the Iloilo City Emergency Response (ICER), four barangay health workers (BHW), and one barangay kagawad.

Sto. Niño Sur was recently placed under Extreme Enhanced Community Quarantine (EECQ) by the city government following the surge in COVID-19 cases in the barangay.

Mayor Jerry Treñas already lifted the EECQ in Brgy. Sto Niño Sur on Friday upon recommendation of health experts.

The mayor has said that there is no need to extend the EECQ as the city government has already conducted mass testing and disinfection in the village.

Naka-mass testing na kita umpisa pa sang ligad semana. Ang importante lang istriktuhon nila ang mga protocols,” he said in previous media interviews.

As of May 11, 2020, the total registered Covid-19 cases in the region is at 93 with 38 recoveries and ten deaths.
