BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer said any councilor in the province can run for president of the Philippine Councilors’ League (PCL)-Negros Occidental chapter.

Ferrer said that a PCL official whom he declined to name visited him and asked if he could run for president.

“Of course, anybody is welcome to run, it is an election,” Ferrer said.

However, Ferrer, chairman of United Negros Alliance (UNegA), said they will be supporting the candidacy of Sagay City Councilor Arturo Marañon, son of former governor Alfredo Marañon Jr.

Earlier Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, a stalwart of Love Negros Team (LNT), said that they will also field a councilor from the 6th district as PCL president.

Ferrer said that while both camps will be fielding their respective candidate, UNegA’s merger with LNT will remain.

It can be recalled that Lacson and Ferrer ran in tandem in the 2019 midterm elections last May 13.

Meanwhile, interim PCL Negros Occidental president Aurelio Garita of Pontevedra town currently sits as PCL representative in the province which was left vacant when former PCL president Macho Alonso ran and won as board member in the 6th district.

Garita’s term will only be for two months as the PCL elections is set in September 2019.
