Almost 2k died in Aklan in first semester of 2020

A total of 1, 974 persons died in Aklan in the first semester of 2020, or an average of 11 deaths daily, according to Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Aklan.

The figure shrunk by about six percent compared to the same period last year with 2,096 deaths.

Among the 17 municipalities, Kalibo posted the highest death incidence of 287 or 14.5 percent of the total.

Ibajay posted 183 deaths (9.3 percent), New Washington with 159 deaths (8.1 percent), Banga with 152 deaths (7.7 percent), and Batan and Nabas with 122 deaths (or 6.2 percent), respectively.

Other municipalities registered the following figures: Numancia with 119 (6.0%), Malay with 117 (5.9%), Makato with 104 (5.3%), Altavas with 91 (4.6%), Malinao with 90 (4.6%), Balete and Tangalan with 84 (4.3%), each, Madalag with 78 (4.0%), Libacao with 72 (3.7%), and Lezo with 64 (3.2%).

The highest increase in death occurrence was recorded in Madalag with 32.2 % (from 59 in the first semester of 2019 to 78 in 2020), Banga with 10.14 % (from 138 to 152), Malay with 6.4 % (from 110 to 117), Numancia with 5.3% (from 113 to 119), Nabas with 3.4% (from 118 to 122), and Tangalan with 1.2% (from 83 to 84).

The biggest drop was recorded in Libacao with -26.5% (from 98 to 72), Buruanga with 25.8% (from 62 to 46), Makato with 20.6% (from 131 to 104), Altavas with 19.5% (from 113 to 91), Malinao with 14.3% (from 105 to 90), and Kalibo with 12.5% (from 328 to 287).

Meanwhile, most deaths occurrence in the province happened in January with 379, translating to an average of 12 deaths daily.

This was followed by the month of February with 367 (13 daily average), March with 350 (11 daily average), May with 314 (10 daily average), June with 293 (10 daily average), and April 271 (9 daily average).

The death statistics data were generated from copies of death certificates submitted to PSA by 17 local civil registry offices in Aklan every month.
