San Miguel Alab Pilipinas made sure there was no upset in their home court as they survived the powerhouse Singapore Slingers in overtime, 86-77, in front of their Filipino fans at Sta. Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.

Avenging their loss against Singapore in their January 12 game, the Alab squad this time outrebounded and out-muscled Singapore that proved to be the edge for their win.

Sam Deguara was a man among boys, imposing his will on the game with his 20-rebound performance.

The victory was a shot in the arm for the squad evident by a fired-up Jimmy Alapag who celebrated with just a few seconds left in the clock.

“That’s really our challenge at this point of the season. Finding that consistency and how we play. We’ve been really up and down the last few weeks,” said Alapag.

Alab has sorely missed the services of Justin Brownlee, especially during clutch situations. The high-flying star is currently playing in the PBA.

However, Brownlee’s absence allowed players like the hot-shooting Jason Brickman and import Nick King to carry the scoring load as both are playing heavy minutes for coach Alapag.
