BACOLOD City – An alleged robber was found dead after he was allegedly shot by a security guard of an airline company on Araneta-Alijis Streets in Barangay Singcang-Airport here Sunday morning.

Police identified the slain robber as Arnold Genevera, 39, of the said village.

Police Major Charles Gever, head of Police Station 8, said Genevera allegedly robbed at gunpoint a 19-year-old lad who was waiting for a passenger jeepney at the area early Sunday morning.

The suspect allegedly took away the victim’s cellular phone worth P7,000, and fled towards the old airport.

The teenager-victim chased him but fell on his knees which caused minor injuries.

Bystanders at the old airport also helped chase the suspect and asked for assistance from the three security guards at an airline ticketing office.

Genevera reportedly ran towards the vicinity of the office and he was cornered by the guards, but he allegedly fired his gun at the guards, prompting one of them identified as Delmar Pequino to retaliate.

Pequino fired his .9mm-caliber pistol service firearm and it Genevera on the back.

But the suspect continued running until he was later found dead at Capricorn Street, JR Torres Subdivision in the same village around 5:35 a.m.

Gever said Genevera was positively identified by the teen victim, but the stolen item and his firearm were not recovered from him.

“He probably threw his firearm while escaping,” Gever said.

Gever said they are still checking if the suspect had previous criminal records.

Meanwhile, Gever said Pequino is detained at the police station while waiting for the decision of the slain robber’s family if charges will be filed against him.
