The Provincial Government of Guimaras is planning to put up an agro-industrial zone in Barangay Sapal in the Municipality of San Lorenzo.
The initiative aims to support the agri-fishery sector in the province.
Governor JC Rahman A. Nava said that a processing facility for coconut products will be built at the site.
He said that he will tap the help of the national government agencies for the realization of the project.
“Nagaplano ang Provincial Government nga mag-set-up sang isa ka agri-industrial zone ukon isa ka area nga i-alokar sang probinsiya sa isa ka propiedad sang Provincial Government sa may bahin sang Barangay Sapal. Ma-alokar kami sang area kun sa diin himuon naton nga base sang aton nga agro-industries
Isa sini sa ginapangayo naton kag kabay nga mabuligan gid kita, ang processing facility. Indi lamang sang coco oil kundi bug-os nga bahin sang aton nga lubi. Ma-process naton kag hopefully ma-manage sang maayo sang aton coconut farmers. So, amo ni ang primary nga ginapangayo naton kag we hope nga ma-realize naton in the shortest possible time,” he said.
The Provincial Government also sets eye to the revival of the feed mill plant in Guimaras.
According to Nava, this will be a way to encourage farmers to plant corn and will help coconut farmers because copra meal is an important ingredient in the production of feeds.
The governor said that not only feeds for the livestock and poultry industry will be produced because even feeds for the aquaculture industry will be manufactured due to the positive growth of mariculture or marine farming in Guimaras.
“Kag gusto ko lang ipabalo sa inyo nga indi na lang livestock and poultry ang target naton tungod nga may growing marine culture, aquaculture industry sa probinsiya sang Guimaras.
So tandugon ta man ang feeds para sa aton nga mga mariculture,” he added.
To boost the province’s agri-tourism industry, Governor Nava announced that farms with potential will be turned into tourism destinations.
He said that the Provincial Government is trying to link these plans to various government agencies so that they can be implemented as soon as possible.
According to Governor Nava, the help of the national government agencies and the support of the Guimarasnons are key to achieve the Provincial Government’s desire to boost the agri-tourism industry of Guimaras.
