A Breakthrough of Excellence

Top S&T scholar graduates for batch 2019 from different DOST accredited universities in Western Visayas were awarded. The recognition of the scholar graduates by the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) was held at Casa Real de Iloilo on March 2, 2020.

“You join the science and technology sector.” Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga, CESO II, DOST VI-Regional Director emphasized in his message.

Gelonga added that “it doesn’t matter whether you teach in the academe, whether you join in the government, whether you work with the private sector, or even in your medical endeavors as long as you get involved with science and technology related activities. So that, there will be more scientists and engineers that will develop to pair our social-economic development.”

Engr. Ramer P. Bautista, Dean if the University of the Philippines Visayas- School of Technology, was this year’s keynote speaker.

In his speech, Bautista gave more than just a keynote message as he shared his life testimony and as a DOST scholar from his undergraduate until his graduate studies.

“Where being a scholar was not just an opportunity but a privilege and a chance to excel in life” he added.

Also sharing their testimonies were scholars Krishia Ann Labon (CapSU); Lenard L. Guinsatao (CHMSC); Mary Cyrene A. Lerio (ASU); Jeraldine Calangi (UPV); Sandro A. Silverio (WVSU) also impart the participants.

Region 6 produce 478 scholar graduates, with 170 that received Latin honors Summa Cum Laude (1), Magna Cum Laude (32), Cum Laude (133) and Distinction awardees (4).

Instilling the tradition of excellence in S&T, the bigger picture of this undertaking was to be excellent wherever they choose to excel.

DOST is devoted to accelerating the development of science and technology for socio-economic development. The Science and Technology (S&T) Scholarship Program is available for both undergraduate and graduate-level scholarships, to those who meet the minimum grade requirement and those qualified by the S&T Scholarship Examination.

DOST offers three undergraduate scholarship programs– RA 7687 Scholarship, DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program and the RA 10612, known as Fast-Tracked S&T Scholarship Act of 2013. (BAPanes/DOST-6)
