BACOLOD City – At least 76 kilos of assorted pork products were destroyed here over the weekend.

These products were confiscated from various grocery stores here last Friday to protect the city from the African Swine Fever (ASF).

Last month, the local governments here and Negros Occidental issued a joint executive order to strictly implement the banning of live pigs, pork, pork products, and other related items from places affected by ASF.

In fact, policemen were deployed in seaports and the airport to assist task force personnel in ensuring the non-entry of pork products here and in the province.

This is both local governments’ way to protect the province’s P6-billion hog industry.

Confiscated products were immediately burned by authorities.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez said on Friday that Bacolod is still “ASF-free.”
