71 WV students qualify for DOST scholarship grant

Despite the unprecedented pandemic, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VI continued to soldier on in accelerating the development of Science and Technology (S&T) human resources in the country by administering scholarship grants.

Recently, the DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI) announced the 71 qualifiers in Western Visayas for the 2020 Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS). From the total qualifiers, 31 were guaranteed of the scholarship grant while 17 were with lacking documents and 23 were considered potential qualifiers.

Qualifiers with lacking documents are still pending for completion of requirements but assured with a slot.

Meanwhile, potential qualifiers are required to submit the lacking documents which must be sent to SEI for validation. If documents or information validated render them eligible for the JLSS, the potential qualifier will be issued with a notice of award and subsequently be scheduled for the Orientation and Signing of the Scholarship Agreement. Otherwise, the potential qualifier will be issued a Notice of Disqualification.

The applicants underwent eligibility screenings using the JLSS E-Scholarship Application System, where documentary requirements including grades for the first two years of college were scrutinized. Data analytics was also employed to determine applicants.

All qualifiers and their parent/guardian must attend the virtual orientation and signing of Scholarship Agreement on August 25 at 1 p.m. Link and other instructions will be sent via email.

Qualifiers who availed of the program will enjoy two years of scholarship benefits, which include tuition subsidy, monthly stipend, book allowance, and others.

Effectivity of the scholarship award is in the First Semester of Academic Year 2020-2021, which means scholars will receive financial assistance for the previous months retroactively.
