5,000 bamboos for Iloilo City

With the aim to improve air quality in Iloilo City, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas initiated the Bamboo Planting Program.

The initiative was launched during Arbor Day Celebration on June 25, 2020 led by Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, councilors and City Government officials and employees.

Executive Assistant for Environment Armando Dayrit said a total of 3,000 bamboos of Kiling specie were planted at Calahunan Sanitary Landfill in Mandurriao.

He added that a total of 1,000 bamboos of the same specie will be planted along the floodway at Barangay Buhang in Jaro district.

Dayrit said the ornamental kind, 1,000 Chinese bamboos will be planted at New Esplanade at the back portion of St. Paul Hospital up to Residence Hotel in City Proper.

The collaboration effort enjoined General Services Office (GSO)-Calahunan Sanitary Landfill, City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), City Agriculturist Office-Nursery, City Beautification, Executive Assistants Office of City Hall, Barangay Buhang, and regional offices of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
