30th NSM in Guimaras ends with 4 major activities

Public and private schools in Guimaras Province participate in 30th National Statistics Month (NSM) Culminating Activity.

The month-long celebration of the 30th National Statistics Month (NSM) in the province of Guimaras ended with four major activities spearheaded by the Provincial Statistics Committee (PSC) and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Guimaras on October 29, 2019 at the Provincial Covered Gym, San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.

“We actually designed simultaneous activities for the culminating of the NSM celebration annually, and this year the PSC and PSA- Guimaras prepared four major activities such as the oratorical and poster making contests provincial data expo and the Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) conducted for the first time in Guimaras,” PSC chairperson and PSA-Guimaras Provincial Statistics Officer (PSO) Nelida B. Losare said.

Seven secondary institutions participated in the Oratorical Contest – 5 public schools and 2 private schools –  while in the poster making contest, 14 schools participated with eleven (11) public and two (3) private schools.

Seven Provincial Statistic Committee member agencies prepared visual and audio- visual presentations to showcase their data and educate the public, share innovations, promote progress, foster cooperation and share provincial disaggregated data,

On the Philippine Statistics Quiz for freshmen college students conducted for the first time in Guimaras Province, 14 students competed – 5 each from Guimaras State University (GSU)- Mosqueda and Salvador Campus and 4 from Philippine College of Business and Accountancy (PSCBA).

Guimaras has two tertiary institutions – 1 public and 1 private – and both sent their participants to the PSQ contest.

The oratorical and poster making contests were judged by Angel Babes Pauchano, Statistician I of PPDO; Arthur Cotimo, Education Program Supervisor of School Divisions Office-Guimaras; and Jaypee Kein Entredicho, Executive Assistant IV of Governor’s Office- Guimaras.

The PSQ were judged by Ruel Jude Bagaforo, Statistical Analyst of PSA- Region VI; Angel Babes Pauchano; and Ma. Elena E. Ecle, Head Teacher I, of Nueva Valencia National High School.

Supervising Statistical Specialist (SSS) of Guimaras, Vicente Geonanga warmly welcomed the participants by emphasizing the NSM objectives: to promote, enhance and instil nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society; and to elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.

Losare also extended her appreciation to all the participating schools and PSC member agencies involved in and contributed to the successful conduct of the month-long NSM celebration with the theme,” Data innovation: Key to a better Nation”
