3 hurt in hacking over drinking session

BACOLOD City – Three persons were injured after they were involved in a hacking incident at Barangay Iglau an, Murcia, Negros Occidental last Saturday.

Police identified the victims as siblings Enrique Ariñas, 39; and Maria Christina, 37.

Investigation showed that Enrique and suspect Jeofrey Barnal, 58, were having a drinking session when a heated argument ensued between them.

Barnal, armed with a bolo allegedly hacked Enrique. Then Maria Christina tried to pacify them but she was also hacked.

Enrique suffered hack wounds on his body while Maria Christina sustained a lone hack wound on her knee. Both of them were rushed to a hospital.

Barnal was also injured during the commotion but police have yet to determine who attacked him. He is now under hospital arrest.

Police recovered from the suspect a 27-inch bolo.

Police eyed misunderstanding and drunkenness as the motive for the incident.
