24 COVID-19 fatalities in Iloilo City unvaccinated

Majority of the COVID-19 deaths logged in Iloilo City were unvaccinated persons, based on the data of the Iloilo City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of City Health Office (CESU-CHO).

CESU reported that 24 out of the 32 deaths recorded from Jan to Feb 5, 2022 were unvaccinated while eight were vaccinated.

Meanwhile, out of the 32 fatalities, 17 were asymptomatic, 11 manifested mid symptoms, and four were severe cases.

Eight deaths were directly caused by COVID-19 while 24 deaths were indirectly linked to the infection.

The CESU has clarified that the data only involved local cases involving residents of Iloilo City.

Last week, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas stressed that unvaccinated individuals are more prone to severe Covid-19 symptoms.

The mayor noted that 43 of the 60 patients admitted at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Western Visayas Medical Center were unvaccinated and were mostly severe cases.

“Out of 60 patients admitted at the ICU of WVMC, 43 of them are unvaccinated and are the most severe cases. The rest are fully vaxxed, and only two have booster shots. I hope that everyone will realize that unvaccinated individuals are more prone to severe Covid symptoms,” he said in a statement.

From Jan. 1 to Feb. 5, 2022, Iloilo City logged 32 Covid-19 deaths with 6,065 recoveries, and 1,597 active cases. (DG)
