2022 highlights of events in education

In March 2022 the PRC Board of Medical Technology announced that a total of 1,268 out of 2,752 examinees nationwide, or 46.08%, passed the Medical Technologist Licensure Examination given in fourteen (14) testing centers nationwide.

Also in March 2022 the PRC Board of Medicine announced that a total of 1,427 out of 2,837 examinees nationwide, or 50.3%, passed the Physician Licensure Examination given in thirteen (13) testing centers nationwide.

Ma. Phoebe Talves Subo of West Visayas State University ranked number 8 in the said examination for Physicians. On the other hand, the PRC released the results of March 2022 Licensure Examinations for Teachers (LET) given in 24 testing centers all over the Philippines. Ten thousand thirty nine (10,039) out of 20,567 or 48.81% passed in the LET – Elementary.  Furthermore 7,809 out of 18,715 or 41.73% passed in the LET-Secondary.

In April 2022 the PRC Board of Pharmacy announced that a total of 678 out of 1,869 examinees nationwide, or 36.28%, passed the Pharmacist Licensure Examination. Also, the PRC Board of Midwifery announced that a total of 733 out of 1,559 examinees nationwide, or 47.02%, passed in the Midwife Licensure Examination given in 15 testing centers all over the country.

The Integrated Midwives Association of the Philippines Foundation (IMAP) School of Midwifery from Region VI ranked number 4 in the said examination with 15 or more examinees and with at least 80% passing percentage while Iloilo Doctors College ranked number 5 in the said examination.

Likewise, in April 2022 the PRC Board of Electrical Engineering announced that a total of 3,029 out of 5,567 examinees nationwide, or 54.41%, passed in the Electrical Engineer Licensure Examination given in fifteen (15) testing centers nationwide. Von Kleo Barsabal Marcuelo of Central Philippine University ranked number 6 in the said examination for Electrical Engineers.

In May 2022 the PRC Board of Civil Engineering announced that a total of 5,836 out of 13,781 examinees nationwide, or 42.35%, passed in the Civil Engineer Licensure Examination given in fifteen (15) testing centers nationwide. John Lewis Lagaña Pabilona of University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos ranked number 4 in the said examination for Civil Engineers.

On May 16-20, 2022 the CHED celebrated its 28th Founding Anniversary with the theme “CHED@28: CLAIMING VICTORY FOR QUALITY HIGHER EDUCATION: Dekalidad na Edukasyon, Karapatan ng Mamamayan”.

The celebration featured events, activities and webinars that revolved around the theme.  In the Regional level, CHED Regional Office VI (CHEDRO VI) conducted a Higher Education Week Caravan and a Cultural Festival: A Showcase of Talents presented by SUCs in the Region. A series of webinars was also conducted by the CHEDRO VI via Zoom in coordination with the Councils of Deans in various disciplines.

On May 18, 2022 CHEDRO VI conducted the 1st CHED Regional Quality Awards Program that recognized the efforts and initiatives of higher education institutions (HEIs) in the areas of instruction, research and community extension. The activity also recognized the CHED scholars and grantees under the STUFAP, UniFAST and K-12 transition programs that graduated with Latin Honors and with other distinctions despite the challenges they encountered during the Pandemic. And in the morning of May 19, 2022, the CHEDRO VI conducted the 1st CHED Regional Online Chess Tournament in partnership with the League of Sports Directors in Western Visayas. The winners of the 1st CHED Online Chess Tournament, Men Category, were 1st Place Von Steven Aquino (University of Antique), 2nd Place Mico Villanueva (Carlos Hilado Memorial State University), and 3rd Place Chris Dominic Chan (Filamer Christian University). The winners for Women Category were 1st Place Fiona Geeweneth Guirhem (Central Philippine University), 2nd Place Resylgin Pineda (West Visayas State University) and 3rd Place Monique Escaran (Western Institute of Technology).
