BACOLOD City – The Provincial Crime Laboratory in Negros Occidental will have two new chemists soon.

This was revealed by Police Colonel Enrique Ancheta, head of the Regional Crime Laboratory, during his recent visit here.

Ancheta said four new chemists will be deployed in Western Visayas, and will be divided into two crime laboratories in Negros Occidental and Iloilo.

The region has only one chemist over the past year.

But with the deployment of two chemists in the province, Ancheta said police officers here will no longer travel to Iloilo to send the evidence and bring the suspect for a drug test.

“We know it’s dangerous and risky. Now, we can expect na mas mabilis na lumabas yung results ng tests,” he added.

Ancheta said it will also lessen the filing of cases on regular filing, wherein suspects were released because the charges were not filed within the reglementary detention period.

Matututukan na ngayon lahat ng cases particularly yung sa drugs kasi dati may mga cases na nadi-dismiss because hindi napupuntahan ng chemist lahat ng court hearings dahil nag-iisa lang siya,” he added.
