BACOLOD City – Two persons on a motorcycle were dead after they allegedly hit a truck loaded with lumber parked at the roadside at Sitio Capaclan, Barangay Inayawan, Cauayan, Negros Occidental Wednesday night.

Police identified the fatalities as motorcycle driver Eugene Jimenez, 18, of the said village, and his companion, Vicente Abondiente, 54, of Barangay Isio.

Police Major Lowell Garinganao, town police chief, said both victims were on their way to Bacolod when their alleged speeding motorcycle reportedly hit the rear portion of a truck driven by Michael Egca, 36, of Barangay Poblacion.

Both victims, who were not wearing helmets, died on the spot due to head injuries, he said. Police said that Jimenez had no driver’s license as well.

“They probably did not see the truck when they were traversing the road,” Garinganao said.

Garinganao said Egca surrendered to the police. He will be released from police custody if the victims’ family fails to file charges against him within the 12-hour reglementary detention period.
