BACOLOD City – Two fishermen from Guimaras province were stranded in Valladolid, Negros Occidental last Saturday, after their boat got destroyed when hit by big waves due to strong winds brought by tropical depression Marilyn.

Police Captain Joseth Catonina, town police chief, identified the two fishermen as Ambiel Yape, a native of Tacloban,  and Francis Alvious, a native of Palawan.

Both of them are temporarily residing at Sitio Dapdap, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras for almost three years now, he added.

Catonina said the two fishermen arrived at Barangay Poblacion past 5 p.m. to buy mussels.

They just got off from their boat when it was hit by big waves due to strong winds and heavy rains, he added.

Both of them were unharmed but their boat was totally wrecked.

Catonina said the two fishermen would usually buy mussels from Joseph Ortega, 50, of Barangay Sagua Banua in the town.

Catonina said the municipal government already extended assistance to them.

Both of them returned to Guimaras early the following day.
