1st CHED Quality Awards and Online Chess Tournament

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) celebrated its 28th Founding Anniversary last May 16-20, 2022. The theme of the celebration is “CHED@28: CLAIMING VICTORY FOR QUALITY HIGHER EDUCATION: Dekalidad na Edukasyon, Karapatan ng Mamamayan”.

The highlight of the celebration is the 1st CHED Regional Quality Awards Program conducted to recognize the efforts and initiatives of higher education institutions in the areas of instruction, research and community extension. This activity also recognized CHED scholars and grantees under the STUFAP, UniFAST and K-12 Transition programs that graduated with Latin Honors and with other distinctions. In relation to this, the following are the awardees.

Best in Research and Publication are West Visayas State University (WVSU) and University of San Agustin (USA). Best in Community Extension and Linkages is Central Philippines State University (CPSU). Best in Peace Education Implementation is WVSU. Best in Indigenous People Education Implementation is USA. Best in Gender and Development (GAD) Mainstreaming Activities is Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT University). Outstanding Performance in Board Examinations are Integrated Midwives Association of the Philippines Foundation School of Midwifery and Iloilo Doctors College (Rank #4 and #5 respectively in April 2022 Midwife Licensure Examination). Best in Student Internship Program are ISAT University and University of St. La Salle. Best in Onboard Training Program is John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University – Arevalo Campus (JBLFMU-Arevalo). Best in NSTP Program Implementation is Garcia College of Technology (GCT). Best in Scholarship Program Report Submission is Guimaras State College (GSC). Best in Higher Education Management Information System (HEMIS) Report Submission is GCT.

The top ten awardees under the CHED Scholarship Program in recognition of their outstanding academic performance obtaining a Latin Honor are Cyril Jan Demandante (STC-MTC Colleges – Magdalo Summa cum Laude), Leo D. Servidad (Central Philippine Adventist College (CPAC) Magna cum Laude), Leonilo B. Candelario, Jr. (CPSU Magna cum Laude), Rafael B. Gonzales (Riverside College Magna cum Laude), Hazil Sazil (Riverside College Magna cum Laude), Mecilina  Jeanne Ganzon (STC-MTC Colleges – Magdalo Magna cum Laude), Christian Gumacal (STC-MTC Colleges – Magdalo Magna cum Laude), Shiella Mae Delfin (Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion Cum Laude), Hazlene A. Mateo (ISAT University Cum Laude) and Ann Johnette Jusos (Iloilo State College of Fisheries (ISCOF) Cum Laude).

The top ten awardees in recognition of their outstanding academic performance obtaining a Latin Honor as beneficiaries under RA 10931 or the “Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act” are Jim John Tolentino (CPSU-San Carlos Summa cum Laude), Cristina Pacite (Capiz State University (CAPSU)-Pilar Magna cum Laude), Merry Joy Endencio (GSC Magna cum Laude), Reymel Duard Jance (Iloilo City Community College Magna cum Laude), Cristal Mae Magtulis (ISAT University Magna cum Laude), Ritchelle Vacal (Northern Iloilo State University Magna cum Laude), Flordeliz Callao (CPAC Cum Laude), Ivonne Talamor (WVSU – Janiuay Cum Laude), Aira Acta (CAPSU Cum Laude) and Ricky Milan (ISCOF – Dingle Cum Laude).

The ten awardees in recognition of their excellence by having completed their post-graduate degree under the Scholarship for Graduate Studies-Local are Dr. Thea Balan and Dr. Jhonna Toledo (Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas), Dr. Ma. Cora Biton (Central Philippine University), Frank Capaciete (JBLFMU – Arevalo), Dr. Louie Lloyd Lamprea (JBLFMU-Arevalo), Dr. Donalyn Lastima (University of Negros Occ. – Recoletos (UNO-R)), Dr. Jade Snow Dionzon (UP Open University), Dr. Andy Jose Casabuena (WVSU), Dr. Jason Cocjin (Silliman University), and Dr. Rosalie Pido (UNO-R).

The winners of the 1st CHED Online Chess Tournament, Men Category, are 1st Place Von Steven Aquino (University of Antique), 2nd Place Mico Villanueva (Carlos Hilado Memorial State University), and 3rd Place Chris Dominic Chan (Filamer Christian University). The winners for Women Category are 1st Place Fiona Geeweneth Guirhem (Central Philippine University), 2nd Place Resylgin Pineda (West Visayas State University) and 3rd Place Monique Escaran (Western Institute of Technology).
