136 Comelec gun ban violators nabbed

BACOLOD City – A total of 136 persons were arrested in Negros Occidental for violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban from January 13 until June 12, 2019.

Records from Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) showed that 134 cases were filed against the arrested violators.

Nocppo also seized a total of 150 firearms from 150 operations conducted in a month.

Nine checkpoint were conducted, 97 police responses to incidents, 19 buy-bust, 22 armed encounters and service of search warrants, and three operations under Oplan Bakal, Sita, and Galugad.

Police Colonel Romeo Baleros, Nocppo director, said the intensified campaign against loose firearms continues through Tokhang Kontra Guinadumilian Nga Pusil, which was launched in July 2018 in Western Visayas to prevent heinous crimes.
