133 persons nabbed for illegal gambling in 1 day

BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here arrested 133 individuals during the one-day simultaneous law enforcement operations against illegal gambling in the province last Tuesday.

Among the arrested in 44 police operations were 132 bettors and a gambling operator.

Police Stations in Bago City and Victorias City were hailed as top performers with four operations each.

A card game locally known as “Tong-its” was the most prevalent among the types of illegal gambling subjected to police operations. It topped the list with 18 operations, followed by the bookies Small Town Lottery (STL), and other forms of illegal gambling, with eight operations each.

According to Nocppo, the one-day operation was part of the “Malasakit, Kaayusan, Kapayapaan Tungo sa Kaunlaran” or M+K+K=K, which is the peace and security framework of Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr., chief PNP.

A total of 31 city and municipal police stations, two Provincial Mobile Force Companies, and the Provincial Intelligence Unit mobilized their intelligence personnel and Barangay Intelligence Network (BIN) for the said operations.
