BACOLOD City – Liga ng Barangay- Bacolod City chapter president and Councilor Lady Gles Pallen said 13 barangays are still conducting clearing operations in their areas.

Pallen said the heads of the said barangays have yet to forward their reports but they are being closely monitored by executive assistant Butch Soliguen.

She added that she will send out notices to the 13 barangays asking them to comply with the report.

Of the 61 barangays in Bacolod City, 48 have submitted their accomplishment reports on clearing operations conducted in their areas.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia earlier issued a memorandum order directing all barangay captains and barangay officials to clear public roads of illegal structures and constructions.

Leonardia said they have submitted the reports of the barangays to the Department of Interior and Local Government and will remind the 13 barangays to comply.

There will disciplinary consequences if they will not follow the directive, he added.

Soliguen said the implementation of clearing operations in the barangays is about 30 percent complete.

A total of 3,761 illegal structures were dismantled in the 48 barangays, based on an inventory of the city, while about 66 structures have already been vacated.

Pallen said the number will increase once all the barangays have submitted their reports.

Leonardia said even owners of furniture shops on Lopez Jaena Street in Brgy. 27 voluntarily demolished portions of their structures that occupy public roads.

The City Engineer’s Office will pave the roads that have been cleared of illegal structures.

Leonardia said that he, together with Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, also met with representatives of Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Bacolod City Water District, and telecommunication companies on the clearing of electrical posts and other obstructions.
