BACOLOD City – A 12-year-old girl was killed after she got stuck between a passenger jeepney and a sedan in Barangay Granada here last Sunday.

Police withheld the name of the victim.

Captain Francis Depasucat, head of Police Station 5, said the victim was playing with other children in their neighborhood when the accident happened.

Depasucat said the children rode on a jeepney owned by the victim’s family, which was parked in front of their house.

But the jeepney allegedly suddenly moved backward, prompting the victim to jump off the vehicle.

Depasucat said the victim was caught between the jeepney and a sedan that was parked behind the former.

“Kinulbaan guro ang bata, naglumpat siya pero daw na sandwich siya sa tunga ka duwa ka salakyan,” he said.

Depasucat said that residents immediately rescued the victim and she was taken to a hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

Depasucat said it remains a mystery how the jeepney moved while it was parked.

Meanwhile, eight persons were wounded after their sports utility vehicle (SUV) fell into a ravine in Barangay Pandanon, Don Salvador Benedicto town last Monday.

Police Major Eugene Tolentino, Don Salvador Benedicto town police chief, said that a group of young individuals were on their way here when their vehicle overshot while approaching the descending curve part of the road, before falling into the ravine on the opposite lane.

All the passengers suffered injuries and were referred to a hospital here.

Tolentino said the driver might have miscalculated, as he was probably unfamiliar with the route.
