102 college students start internship with Sagay city gov’t

BACOLOD City – 102 college students started Monday their 3-month internship in various offices of the Sagay City government in Negros Occidental through the Department of Labor and Employment’s “Government Internship Program” (GIP).

Mayor Alfredo “Thirdy” Marañon said that this is an opportunity for Sagaynon students to get experience and practice the theories they have learned in school.

Marañon also advised the interns to show their utmost dedication, hard work, and honesty as people will notice good work ethic and can recommend for jobs after they graduate.

The 102 students from various colleges in Sagay will be compensated for their internship.

They will have a salary of P395 a day, which is higher compared to the city’s job order employees, Mayor Marañon noted.

The program was supported by the Office of Second District Representative Leo Rafael Cueva, who allocated the budget for their compensation.

Cueva said in his message that the interns from Sagay is part of the 300 interns that will be hired by the local government units in the second district, including Cadiz City and Manapla.

He also hopes that this will give the interns an insight into government work and challenge them to maximize their experience in public service.

The event was also attended by DOLE-Negros Occidental Field Office Senior Labor Employment Officer Ma. Victoria Diwata Borines, who led the orientation of the interns.

The event was also attended by Vice Mayor Narwin Javelosa and Councilor Rodnel delos Reyes.
