A total of 100 housing units in Silay City, Negros Occidental were improved and rehabilitated by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office 6.

The ₱14.02-million isolation facility project, which was recently turned-over by DPWH 6 Regional Director Tiburcio DL Canlas to Silay City Mayor Mark Andrew Arthur J. Golez, includes provision of beds, proper ventilation and lighting, and plumbing works.

During the ceremonial turnover held recently, Canlas said the housing units were converted into isolation/quarantine facility for COVID-19 patients of Silay City and neighboring areas.

“We rehabilitated the existing 100 units of the National Housing Authority (NHA) to answer the increasing demand for additional quarantine facility to house Negrenses afflicted by COVID-19,” he added.

“This will likewise provide flexibility among hospitals so they can discharge non-emergency cases and house them in the facility, freeing hospital beds to give way for severe and critical cases.”

Canlas said DPWH will continue to assist the local government in the rehabilitation of 200 more housing units to be used as additional quarantine facility.

DPWH is one of the government agencies who is always at the forefront of delivering basic infrastructure facilities even at the time of pandemic.
