BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here reported Tuesday that 10 personnel were infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Police Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, Nocppo’s public information officer, said the recent active cases were due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the province last month under Alert Level 3.

Donasco said that six officers were asymptomatic while four others had mild symptoms.

She added that some of them were under home quarantine while others were in quarantine facilities.

This figure is added to the 267 personnel of Nocppo that tested positive of the virus since the pandemic started, according to Donasco.

Donasco said the infected police officers were all fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and are included in the 99.5 percent vaccinated personnel of the provincial police force.

At present, Donasco said that only 10 out of more than 2,387 police officers in the province are still unvaccinated.

She said that some of the unvaccinated police personnel were pregnant while others have comorbidities.

Meanwhile, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has also recorded two COVID-19 cases last Jan. 21 and both infected cops have already recovered from the infection according to Police Lieutenant Colonel Sherlock Gabana, BCPO public information officer.
