1 dead, 4 hurt in motorcycle collision

BACOLOD City – A man died while four others were injured in a road collision along Rafael Salas Drive at Barangay Sampinit, Bago City, Negros Occidental on Sunday.

Police identified the fatality as Ricardo Detangco, 55, of Barangay Calumangan.

Wounded were Detangco’s wife Emelda, 50, of Barangay Calumangan, Ryan Labrador, 29, Romer Morales, both residents of Barangay Busay, and Jejel Beleganio, 37, of Barangay Balingasag.

Police Major John Joel Batusbatusan, city police chief, said that Labrador was driving a motorcycle to city proper area with his two companions when they were allegedly hit by Ricardo, who suddenly crossed the road on board a motorcycle with his wife.

All five of them suffered serious injuries and were brought to a hospital where Ricardo was declared dead.

Labrador and his two companions were transferred to a hospital here while Detangco’s wife remains at the city’s hospital.

Batusbatusan said Labrador was driving on his proper lane but he committed violations for not wearing helmet and overloading.

Detangco and his wife were also not wearing helmets when the accident occurred, he added.
