Man dies while swimming off Roxas City beach

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A man died in an apparent drowning while swimming off Sitio San Juan in Barangay Baybay here on Friday morning, Aug. 21.
Police identified the victim as Anthony Redgie Aranza, also known as “John,” a resident of the area who had a disability.
Police identification information listed Aranza as 40, although the initial report described him as 42.
A boy found Aranza lying unresponsive on the beach, police said.
An initial police investigation indicated that Aranza had been swimming alone in a shallow portion of the beach.
His family told police that Aranza had an ailment that might have contributed to the drowning.
The family said the ailment developed after Aranza was involved in a motorcycle crash several months ago and underwent surgery.
Personnel of the Roxas City Emergency Response Team brought Aranza to Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital.
An attending physician declared him dead on arrival.
